Ugh. Everyone is hurt again. You’re out of the playoffs because you were counting on your awesome Andy Dalton/Tyler Eifert stack. Now you’re sad, and worse, you’re bored because you can’t even trade. I’m going to do something a little bit differently this week. Week 12 had some exciting moments, including one of the most thrilling (and controversial) Monday Night games in recent memory. That said, at this point in the season, your leagues are beginning to lock down trade windows and most fantasy owners have come to terms with the 2015 season. Instead of telling you to “sell high…...
Dynasty is a tougher game than redraft in many ways, and a prime late-season example is the winner’s dilemma: How much of your future are you willing to mortgage in order to take a real shot at the title this year?… Membership Required You must be a member to access this content.View Membership LevelsAlready a member? Welcome back to Dynasty Impact, sorry to have missed you last week. If you’re in a proper dynasty league, your trade deadline is probably fast-approaching, which means it’s a great time to wheel and deal before contenders make their runs and pretenders start daydreaming of Ezekiel Elliott…. On Sunday, Dez Bryant was more decoy than Real McCoy, but I’ll stop being coy and come out and say it: It’s still pretty awesome that he’s back. Literally every single player in the NFL was injured on Sunday, and in some cases, players will have a chance to make a Dynasty Impact. Please join me in surveying the post-apocalyptic landscape; you never know what…...
What a time to be alive! Week 7 saw Darren McFadden and Chris Johnson stacking yards on top of yards, while a 170 pound 32-year-old WR2 called Nate Washington was the highest-scoring receiver in fantasy. Even in dynasty, when geezers become pleasers, fantasy leagues have to take notice. But, let’s not lose focus:… Membership Required You must be a member to access this content.View Membership...
Of course, I was out of town during the week that my favorite receiver finally put up some respectable WR1 numbers, garbagetime notwithstanding. Alas, Brandin Cooks is not having the season I’d hoped for, but all is not lost: Week 6 showed us numerous examples of receivers who are in the midst of breakouts. Remember when Markus Wheaton was a “thing?” Me neither. Let’s take…...
This edition was almost called the “Karlos Konversation” but I changed my mind. Any time you can arbitrarily replace a “C” with a “K” you probably shouldn’t, though Week 4 touchdown hero Riley Cooper probably disagrees. Regardless, a month of football is in the books and Rishard Matthews and Travis Benjamin are top-12 WRs (with DeAngelo Williams and Darren Sproles as their baffling top-12 RB counterparts)…....
Or, “What is an ‘Antonio Andrews?’” If Week 2 was a bloodbath, Week 3 was a bubble bath. Only Ben Roethlisberger suffered an injury of any serious consequence, and it doesn’t affect the dynasty stock of Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell, Martavis Bryant, et al. one bit. The good teams mostly won and the bad teams mostly lost, but some sophomore running backs put on surprising…...
Week 2 was a disaster. Not only did many of my Week 1 reactions seem to be overreactions[1]They weren’t!, but several key players found themselves subject to injuries of varying seriousness. However, there is also a silver lining: Against this backdrop of blood and guts, multiple rookie running backs have made significant strides in their respective backfields. In this edition of Dynasty Impact, I’ll assess…...
Someday, we might look back on 2015’s Week 1 as the debut of a legendary quarterback. Sadly, it may also mark the beginning of the end for one of the all-time greats. I’m happy to report that Week 1 had numerous dynasty implications, and there’s already been a dramatic shakeup in my rookie rankings. Brace yourselves and join me in considering the Dynasty Impact of…...
BRACE FOR IMPACT Greetings and welcome to what will certainly become the most popular recurring column on RotoViz![1]Insert audience laughtrack. Throughout the season, I will analyze the “Dynasty Impact” of the previous week; performance, injury, trades, arrests, etc. But wait, there’s more! In this special preseason edition of Dynasty Impact, I will unveil my positional dynasty rookie rankings, which I will keep updated throughout the…...
Foreword: I’m nervous about this one. All Marshawn Lynch does is prove his detractors wrong. I admit that I’m scared, but the time has come for someone to stick their neck out and say it: It’s time to sell Beast Mode. The first article I ever read on RotoViz told me not to draft Marshawn Lynch. It was during the offseason following a 2012 campaign…...
I love the RotoViz Trade Calculator. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: It’s the best approximation of dynasty value you’ll find anywhere. Charles Kleinheksel recently wrote a great piece utilizing the Calculator, suggesting that it might be time to move away from a certain 30-year-old RB with over 2,000 career carries. I definitely agree with him. Adrian Peterson still has real trade value…...
We’ve been doing this for years. You know the drill by now: Frank Gore is old. He’s equally amazing and ancient. He’s a pleaser, but he’s also a geezer.[1]Oops. Made myself laugh. The age cliff is fast-approaching, and Gore’s fall will be sudden and steep. Imagine Gore as Wile E. Coyote, running off the cliff, ball tucked under one arm, legs still churning. He pauses briefly…...
Brandin Cooks sure seems like a number one dynasty wide receiver. He’s phenomenally young, impossibly athletic, and he owns one of the most productive college seasons of all time. By some accounts, he was perhaps the best small WR prospect ever. He has an elite quarterback in Drew Brees, and his only real competition for targets…is now playing for the Seahawks. So why is he being selected…...
