I regret to inform you that we have reached the part of the fantasy season I dislike most. I’m not talking about bye weeks, early kickoffs, or games on multiple days. They all happen, and I have made my peace with these events. No, I am talking about the time in the season when I am finally forced to acknowledge that one of the best options if you need to plug in a player at tight end this week, is not a tight end. Not by any measures you care to name. But I digress. Let’s quickly look back to see how TEs got on last week.
Stats do not include players from Monday Night Football
Here are three players you can scoop up off the waiver wire and plug into your lineups for the Week 10 games. This includes a player that may not be eligible in your league, but if he is you may have to bow to inevitability.
Taysom Hill (Available in 73.2% of ESPN Leagues) vs. Atlanta Falcons
It’s pretty much pointless using standard stats to determine whether Taysom Hill’s matchup against the Falcons is a good one for fantasy. Hill’s role within the Saints’ offense is not one of a standard TE. So it matters little that the Falcons rank 12th in receptions allowed to TEs — though it certainly doesn’t hurt to know this. The fact is the Saints’ offense is broken, and they are also likely to be without Chris Olave this week. Over the last two games, Hill has seen a combined nine targets while averaging 4.6 rushing attempts per game this season. Hill has three rushing touchdowns to his credit, with two of them coming in Week 4 . . . against the Falcons.
The Saints will likely look to make use of him, and his brand of usage scores fantasy points. He’s not a real TE, but I suspect fantasy managers want points more than my grandstanding. If he’s eligible to play TE in your league, I advise you to start him. And may the powers that be have mercy on us.
