Having written about streaming defenses for several years now, and wasted too much time on waiver wires for the last decade, I’ve noticed some patterns. Right now we’re at the stage where everyone is starting to figure out who the best defenses are, and the surprise teams are getting snatched up. D/STs that started the season rostered at the single digit rates will be unavailable in just a few short weeks. We want to be the first ones there, but just know that those defenses too will go through huge ups-and-downs this year. Weekly D/ST scoring is more dependent on the opposing offense than on the D/ST itself. So while fantasy managers who paid up for the 49ers defense will continue to start them through thick and thin, streamers can get better value targeting the Panthers, Giants, and Titans all year, at very little cost.
