Shawn Siegele reveals his favorite 2024 late-round pick and explains why a forgotten-yet-buzzy WR allows you to check four boxes at once.
When it comes to volume, I generally have only one rule: don’t make the same volume play as everyone else.
If you’re making the same volume bet as the community, then that bet is going to get pricey even if it doesn’t seem pricey. The obvious volume play gives you a thesis that is reasonably priced if it pans out but leaves you without any talent moat when it comes to the specific player to fulfill that thesis. This is the essential reason the RB Dead Zone punishes drafters every year, but the general principle doesn’t apply exclusively to RBs.
As fantasy managers, we can’t ignore volume. In many cases, it makes all the difference. But when we’re looking for ways to gain an edge on the drafting community, we want to combine our volume plays with other elements:
- A breakout thesis
- Tactical and structural objectives
- Price
It’s rare that fantasy football gives us such a strong pick in the very final rounds, but when it does, we want to make sure to take advantage.
