Jonnu Smith seems firmly entrenched in the journeyman stage of his career. The former Titan, Patriot, and Falcon tight end has landed on his fourth team after signing with the Miami Dolphins after the Falcons released him following the 2023 season. The deal could be worth up to $10m over two years, with the word “could” likely doing a lot of heavy lifting there.
This move is unlikely to flip fantasy football on his head. But the match does seem to have a good chance of being successful, at least in the short term.
Coming off a career year
The 2023 Atlanta Falcons’ offense was something of a running joke. This was largely due to the way head coach Arthur Smith seemingly refused to unleash the full power of his most talented offensive pieces. Indeed, Jonnu Smith received ire from some quarters, given Arthur seemed to have more faith in his former Titans pupil than the TE he helped select with the fourth overall pick in 2021, Kyle Pitts. The per-game numbers show that this was not the case, with Pitts earning more targets than Smith. But those same numbers also show that Smith did more with those targets.
