This week in my Best Ball Mania IV (BBM4) advance rate review we’ll be revisiting our format from Week 6, looking at advance rates by roster construction. Back in Week 6, the story centered on the dominance of the zero running back construction. Raheem Mostert, De’Von Achane, Zach Moss, and Kyren Williams had defined the season to that point. Each of these players were producing at a level that exceeded their draft position by a large margin through six weeks. However, all four players have cooled off to various extents and for various reasons since that point. Mostert has cooled off in terms of efficiency, Moss has ceded work to Jonathan Taylor, and Achane and Williams have both missed time due to injury.

The landscape has changed considerably since Week 6. At the time it felt necessary to view every position through a zero RB lens. How is zero RB impacting WR advance rates? Which TE constructions are most common with zero RB? Which QBs are paired most often with Dolphins RBs? These were the kinds of questions we were thinking about in Week 6. That is no longer a necessary or relevant lens. We’re seeing positive advance rates from constructions that haven’t been effective in any previous BBM tournament. The expensive RBs finally seem to be making a difference.

Each position’s chart will categorize teams by the draft capital they spent at the position (along the top) and the number of players they selected at that position (along the bottom). The y-axis shows the percentage above or below the average advance rate (16.67%) for each grouping. Green bars denote above-average constructions, red bars below-average constructions.
