Dynasty Command Center 2023: Week 2 – Zay Flowers Delivers, Breece Hall Erupts, Puka Nacua Arrives

Dynasty Command Center 2023: Week 2

Zay Flowers Delivers

In last week’s Dynasty Command Center, I highlighted Flowers and Jordan Addison as dynasty risers. The value delta between the pair of 2023 first round picks and fellow first-frame selection Jaxon Smith-Njigba was wider than made sense given the trio’s similar NFL Draft value, prospect profiles, landing spots, and paths to impactful fantasy football roles.

Zay Flowers and Jordan Addison are expected to be deployed as their teams’ No. 2 or No. 3 passing weapons immediately. If we see five or six targets and some meaningful fantasy production from either of these players, expect them to climb towards Jaxon Smith-Njigba rapidly.

Week 1 gave us strong performances from Flowers and Addison, while the Seahawks’ struggles affected Smith-Njigba. Let’s zoom in on Flowers, whom I’m particularly juiced up about. He was PPR WR16 for the week and was one of only 16 wide receivers with 10 or more targets. Our Advanced Stat Explorer really highlights just how impressive Flowers ranked in key metrics in his debut.

No. 4 in target frequency (2.6 routes per target)
No. 11 in yards per route
No. 11 in yards after catch per reception
No. 2 in missed tackle percentage
Fifty percent of his receptions resulted in a first down (t-13th)

The Ravens wasted no time featuring Flowers in their offense. His connection with Lamar Jackson was evident, and his dynamic athleticism popped just as it did throughout camp and preseason. The devastating injury to J.K. Dobbins (Achilles tear) will probably result in a greater reliance on the passing attack this season. Mark Andrews will presumably be the primary weapon upon his return, but Flowers looks set up nicely for a potential WR2 fantasy finish as a rookie based on his Week 1 role and effectiveness.
