Shawn Siegele breaks down the 2023 rookie landscape ahead of the NFL draft and explains why he’s departing from the mainstream with three of his early selections.
If you’ve been listening to our NFL draft series on RotoViz Overtime with fantastic guests like Travis May and Patrick Kerrane (with more heavy hitters to come), you know I’ve been teasing this series where I dive into the Sports Info Solutions vault and make the pro and con case for each of the elite prospects.
In this series, I’ll be using the first three rounds of a hypothetical rookie draft as a template for ranking players and dividing them into tiers. The SIS college stats are similar to those found on the pro side in reader-favorite tools like the Advanced Stats Explorer, Stealing Signals, and Advanced Team Stats.
We’ll be looking at evidence-based comps from the Box Score Scout and Prospect Workout Explorer, and building off of the RotoViz Rookie Guide. This project helps you see the evolution of the rankings from Vol. 2 (where I collaborate with Dave Caban, Blair Andrews, and Curtis Patrick), before we get new rankings again following the draft itself.
