If you have spent any time listening to the RotoViz College Football Fantasy Podcast you know I have long loved Kylin Hill. He was drafted in the seventh round and fell to a team with multiple talented running backs (Green Bay). As disappointing as his fall is, the fact remains that it may not make too much of a difference as Day 3 running backs rarely hit.
Of course, this draft shook out a bit differently than we’re used to seeing, as only four RBs were selected in the first three rounds. The only other time that this happened was in 2016. Day 3 had plenty of value on the board. Some of my other favorite RBs were Michael Carter, Kenneth Gainwell, and Chuba Hubbard. A decent landing spot could provide for some exciting fantasy production.
Potential Landing Spots
Two of the most exciting locations to me were the Atlanta Falcons and the New York Jets. Both teams have a high number of vacated targets and have not addressed the RB position through free agency.
Vacated Carries
Atlanta Falcons
Todd Gurley, Brian Hill, and Ito Smith have all exited and with them so have 358 carries. The Falcons have brought in Mike Davis who had rushed 165 times for 642 yards and 6 TD, all career highs. Barring a surprising trade back into the 2021 NFL Draft, or signing an undrafted player or a free agent, the Falcons are relying on Davis, who is a clear winner after the draft.
New York Jets
The Jets have waved goodbye to the ageless Frank Gore, as well as Le’Veon Bell. The two combined for 51% of the Jets carries. The only returning RBs are La’Mical Perine, Ty Johnson, and Josh Adams. While the Jets did bring in the oft-injured Tevin Coleman, there remains a massive hole in the RB room.
