Michael Dubner continues his 2020 NFL Best Ball Review, this time using Functional Fantasy Points to reveal the WRs who contributed the most fantasy football points to starting rosters.
Last offseason I debuted the concept of Functional Fantasy Points (FFP), which are the fantasy points a player scores above baseline at their position on a weekly basis. FFP accounts for the volatility that we care about in fantasy football; that is to say, FFP measures the number of points a player adds to starting lineups.
Last week, we looked at 2020’s empty-calorie fantasy football scorers -aka the WRs who contributed the fewest fantasy points to starting rosters. In this 2020 Best Ball Review, we’ll flip the script and look at the WRs who scored the most Functional Fantasy Points and vaulted teams to the top of leaderboards.
Just Score Points – Elite Producers Pack on the Protein
90th Percentile Functional Fantasy Point Scorers
Davante Adams was a fantasy football god in 2020. He scored 15 more PPR than overall WR2 Tyreek Hill, and perhaps more impressively added 38 more points to starting rosters than the next best player. If Larry Fitzgerald and Danny Amendola are empty carbs, then Adams is a smoothie of your favorite superfoods.
Of the 10 90th-percentile Functional Fantasy Point scorers, nine were also 90th-percentile PPR scorers. While it may seem fairly obvious that the top PPR scorers also contributed the most fantasy points to starting lineups, we also shouldn’t lose sight of this fundamental fact. We shouldn’t be as concerned about fantasy point distributions for elite fantasy WRs. In best ball drafts, this means that our top priority is just to draft elite fantasy producers. Everything else is secondary to that.
