We’re back at yet another memorable course in the Riviera Country Club. It’s a par 71 that plays just a touch over 7,320 yards. The greens are poa and the rough/fairways are Kikuyu.[1]It’s fun to say … try it. The Genesis Open features a much stronger field than we had last week which means that ownership should spread out at the top of the salary scale. With four of the top five and eight of the top-10 golfers, we’re looking at one of the best fields we’ve seen this season.
Mid-Range Targets
Viktor Hovland ($8,700) is one of my main targets this week. He’s all the way up to No. 14 in the world and for some reason comes in at sub-$9,000 price tag. Hovland hasn’t missed a cut since the Florida swing last year[2]March and has finished in the top six in four of his past five starts.
Cameron Tringale ($7,600) fits the bill as a mid-range target. I think I’ve written him up in some capacity for each of the last three weeks but it’s worth repeating. Tringale is only a few years removed from a season in which he missed 19 of 27 cuts, but something has clicked in his game. In Raw PRK, Tringale is sandwiched in between Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott.[3]Both are pretty good.
Deep Dives
There are a few golfers this week that outperformed the rest of the sub-$7,500 range in the optimal this week.
- Maverick McNealy ($7,300)
- Sam Burns ($7,400)
- Henrik Norlander ($7,400)
