In this edition of Win the Waiver Wire, Curtis Patrick shares his top waiver targets for Week 10 in seasonal fantasy football leagues.
Whether through injury, snap count, or role, every fantasy owner can look at their squad and identify a player who disappointed relative to expectations in Week 9. We’ve also entered bye-week season, which means waiver activity will carry greater importance for most fantasy players moving forward.
*For the purposes of this week’s article, I’ll be using ESPN “percentage rostered” data. Players are listed in the order of priority, by position. To make the most of my time and yours, I only provide analysis for players who are available in around 50% of leagues.
Quarterback
Jared Goff (available in 66.8% of leagues)
If the Seahawks are the most exciting fantasy offense, whoever is playing the Seahawks is the second-most exciting fantasy offense each week. Josh Allen just scorched them for 40 fantasy points and the Bills set a new model for facing the Seahawks; never run.
Goff averaged 344 passing yards against Seattle in 2019, which is about in line with what opponents have been putting up on them per game in 2020. If you need to cover a Week 10 bye for Patrick Mahomes, Matt Ryan, or Justin Herbert, then Goff is the best bet on the wire.
Drew Lock (available in 86.6% of leagues)
FAAB: 1%
Recommended here last week, Lock didn’t disappoint against the Falcons secondary. He crested 300 passing yards and threw two TDs, bringing his total to five over the past two weeks. His emerging chemistry with Jerry Jeudy could make him a great play again in Week 10 as he looks to post QB1 numbers for a third consecutive contest.
In a game with a total of 51.5, the Raiders secondary figures to be ready and willing, having allowed over 300 yards in four of five contests. Their 122 yards allowed to Baker Mayfield two weeks ago should be considered an outlier; the game featured crazy wind gusts of nearly 40 miles per hour and it affected both teams’ passing attacks.
