The impressive campaign for the 2020 wide receiver class continued this weekend. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, second-round selection Chase Claypool erupted to the tune of 110 receiving yards and four total touchdowns (three receiving, one rushing). Capitalizing on the sudden absence of teammate Diontae Johnson (back), Claypool dominated in all facets of the game.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool had a massive game in a 38-29 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 5. Claypool caught seven of his 11 targets for 110 yards and two touchdowns and added three rushes for six yards and a third touchdown in the big win. The rookie wideout was easily the team’s leading receiver on an afternoon where Pittsburgh lost Diontae Johnson to a back injury during the first half. Johnson’s injury may have led to Claypool seeing more usage but it will be tough for Pittsburgh to return him to a complementary role after his Week 5 explosion. Claypool is a priority waiver target this week as the Steelers gear up to take on the Cleveland Browns in Week 6.
History Of Success
The Steelers have a known track record of drafting and developing wide receivers. Aside from the obvious (Antonio Brown), JuJu Smith-Schuster and Johnson are two of the most recent examples of the organization’s great picks. Claypool, a talented and productive collegiate prospect, appears poised to be the next in line.
A relative unknown until his final season at Notre Dame, Claypool was a late breakout (21.4) but posted incredible combine metrics.
One of the biggest reasons for optimism for Claypool comes in his collegiate production comps courtesy of our Prospect Box Score Scout. This highlight players with similar forty times, draft capital, and college production.
