One offense with multiple offseason storylines took down the Super Bowl runner-up from last season. The Arizona Cardinals topped their division rival San Francisco 49ers in a thrilling matchup. The acquisition of wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins stole the spotlight, and it’s hard to argue based on his Week 1 performance. But the most important development occurred at a different position. Kliff Kingsbury raved about Chase Edmonds during training camp, and he was used substantially more than many expected.
Edmonds saw a good amount of action in Week 1. He carried the ball six times for 26 yards and caught three of five targets for 19 yards and a touchdown. While he was out-touched by Kenyan Drake 18 to nine, Edmonds was more efficient with his touches, averaging 4.3 yards on the ground and 6.3 yards per reception, compared with 3.8 and 2.5, respectively, for Drake. Edmonds should continue to see somewhere around 10 touches per week in a high-functioning offense.
