With Drafters offering a Best Ball Championship, Dubner looks to gain an edge by looking at the best month to enter the tournament for maximizing points.

Drafters launched their Best Ball Championship on July 3. Within three days, over 1,700 owners have already taken their shot at the $25K prize pool.

In a tournament with such a top-heavy prize pool (40% of the prizes going to first place), we need to maximize every advantage we can find to land first place. Just like last year with the DRAFT Best Ball Championship, we can see how draft month impacts a roster’s scoring potential.

Why Does Draft Month Even Matter?

In traditional best ball leagues, you are only competing against the other 11 owners in the league, all of whom have the potential to access the same information as their competition.

However, in the Drafters Best Ball Championship, we are competing against 5,000 other entrants with teams drafted at different points of the offseason. Information available to drafters will differ depending on the date your draft takes place.

There tend to be two schools of thought:

• Early Drafters: Draft early before the public catches onto players you identify as values.
• Late Drafters: Draft later so you have more information available to you compared to your opponents who drafted earlier in the offseason.
