The field is set at 30 for the TOUR Championship. The field will take on East Lake Golf Course as it has every year since 2004. The course is a par 70 that plays just over 7,300 yards. The greens are around 6,300 square feet and are bermudagrass. Golfers that were lucky enough to qualify for the TOUR Championship will make have to deal with 74 bunkers and six water hazards as they make their way around the track.
The course itself has been somewhere between 20th and 30th most difficult on tour in any year over the past half-decade. With winning scores ranging anywhere from -9 to -12 over that span, it will be interesting to see how the new format plays out. Before anyone sticks a tee in the ground, the golfers will start with staggered scores. They’ll range from Justin Thomas ($15,500) starting at 10-under all the way down to the last five golfers in the TOUR Championship that will start at even par.

OFF THE TEE
Despite the length of East Lake, there’s an ever so slight advantage to accuracy off the tee. As far as DK points go, driving accuracy is about 1.5 times more correlated to scoring as distance off the tee is. In East Lake’s illustrious history as host of this event, there have been 19 golfers to break 100 DK points. Of that group, 10 golfers have finished in the top 10 of distance compared to 12 that hit that threshold in driving accuracy.

ON APPROACH
It isn’t a shocking development that golfers who hit greens score well here. In the aforementioned group of 100-plus DK point scorers, 16 have finished in the top 10 of GIR. Only two golfers who’ve won at this track since 2010 have done so while losing strokes on approach. They both made up for it with a hot putter, though.
