The Tour is heading to Greensboro, NC for this year’s Wyndham Championship. The course, as usual, is Sedgefield Country Club. It’s a par-70 course that plays just a touch over 7,100 yards, and the greens are bermudagrass. There are only 48 bunkers on the course to go along with the 13 water hazards. It’s not the most difficult course around, despite all of that water. In fact, you have to go all the way back to 2013 for it to be inside of the top 30 most difficult courses for a given season. Last year, there was only one hole in the top 125 most difficult holes on tour. As you’ll see with the winning scores, there are birdies to be had.

Vegas Value
Martin Kaymer ($34) jumps out as a value this week. At under $35, he’s surrounded by golfers with odds to win in the triple digits. Kaymer is sitting at 33/1, though, and has the skillset to play at a course like Sedgefield. He’s playing well lately, too. Kaymer has hit nearly 65% of his greens in regulation across his last four starts.
The Yahoo! Pricing algorithm still hasn’t caught up to the young guns on tour. Collin Morikawa ($29) is still in the infancy of his pro career, but has already notched a win. In just his seventh start on Tour, he took down the Barracuda Championship. Morikawa has hit more than two-thirds of his greens in regulation in six of his seven starts in his young career. He’s 14/1 as one of the shortest favorites in the field and is the same price as Doc Redman who’s 125/1 and $1 cheaper than Stewart Cink who’s 200/1! Viktor Hovland ($27) and Matthew Wolff ($31) are both values at their prices as well. I’m not sure when the pricing will catch up to their skill, but it’s worth taking advantage of their prices while they’re so low.
Price Pivots
We have a quintet of golfers at $43 and above this week. Hideki Matsuyama ($47) leads the way with Webb Simpson ($44) trailing behind in the pricing race by a few dollars. Then, a trio of golfers tied at $43 in Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, and Paul Casey.
Another week, another Daniel Berger ($29) recommendation. It’s extremely off brand for me, but when the tools point that way . . . who am I to question them? He admittedly didn’t play great last week, but it was his first start after a two week gap in his schedule. We see golfers come back and play well on their second start after a layoff all the time. Berger’s made 10 of 11 cuts recently after a shaky start to his year.
Billy Horschel ($38) shows up as a pivot for four of the top five priced golfers this week when you filter by all-time stats on our Pivots Tool. Since the beginning of May, Horschel has made six of seven cuts with five top-25 finishes. We know that not all top tens are created equally and Horschel is coming off of a ninth place performance against a much stronger field than the one he’ll face this week for the Wyndham Championship. He missed the cut at The Open Championship but bounced back nicely last week hitting over 60% of his GIR and fairways while running hot with his putter to finish in ninth place.
