The Tour is heading to Greensboro, NC for this year’s Wyndham Championship. The course, as usual, is Sedgefield Country Club. It’s a par-70 course that plays just a touch over 7,100 yards, and the greens are bermudagrass. There are only 48 bunkers on the course to go along with the 13 water hazards. It’s not the most difficult course around, despite all of that water. In fact, you have to go all the way back to 2013 for it to be inside of the top 30 most difficult courses for a given season. Last year, there was only one hole in the top 125 most difficult holes on tour. As you’ll see with the winning scores, there are birdies to be had.

OFF THE TEE
Sedgefield CC benefits those that are accurate off the tee. Since 2010, there have been 225 golfers that have finished in the top 20 of DK scoring. Over that span, 37 (16.4%) have finished in the top 10 of driving distance compared to 53 (23.5%) that hit that ranking in driving accuracy. If we zoom into the very best scorers, the 44 golfers who’ve broken 100 DK points during that span, we see a similar trend. Twice as many golfers in that group cracked the top 10 in accuracy over distance.

ON APPROACH
As the season comes to a close, I’ve officially run out of ways to say that greens in regulation matter. It’s difficult to hit a ceiling performance without birdie putts. Golfers that scored more than 100 DK points here have averaged 78.9% of GIR hit. That’s a jump of more than 8% compared to the average golfer in the field.
