After a week over in Northern Ireland, the tour turns its attention to TPC Southwind for the WGC FedEx St. Jude Invitational. The course is a par 70 and plays just a bit over 7,240 yards. The greens are just over 5,400 square feet and are bermudagrass. The greens typically run around 12 feet on the stimp which makes these some of the faster greens on tour. As the golfers make their way around the track they’ll have to deal with 94 bunkers and 10 water hazards. Given that this is a WGC event, we’re looking at a much smaller field, and there will be no cut this week.

OFF THE TEE
The course has been in the rotation for the entire span of our database here. Since 2010, there have been 232 golfers that have finished in the top 20 of DK scoring. Of that group, 94 (40%) have finished in the top 25 of driving distance compared to 92 (39.6%) that hit that threshold in driving accuracy. If we narrow down that group to top five scorers, we see a bit more of an advantage for distance. We’ve had 48 golfers in the top 10 of DK scoring. Just under 48% of that group hit the top 25 in distance compared to 33% that got there in accuracy off the tee.

As always, we need to find golfers that are getting birdie opportunities. This course is usually somewhere between 10th and 15th most difficult on the year with a field scoring average of 0.5 strokes over par. Of the 48 golfers that have finished in the top 5 of DK scoring, over 70% have finished inside of the top 25 of greens in regulation.
