We have yet another week at an unknown course this week. The 3M Open is being held at TPC Twin Cities up in Blain, Minnesota. The last time that the state of Minnesota held a non-major PGA Tour event Jerry Koosman was on the mound for the soon-to-be world champion Mets. Those days are obviously well behind us. TPC Twin Cities is an Arnold Palmer designed course that will play as a 7,450-yard par 71 this week. The greens are bentgrass and are average size coming in at 6,500 square feet. The field will have to contend with 72 bunkers and 27 water hazards as they make their way around the track.
Vegas Values
Patrick Reed ($41) is a name that pops out immediately when looking at this week’s slate. The golfers immediately surrounding him are between 30/1 and 45/1 while Reed sits at 20/1. He isn’t far from a successful week, he just hasn’t seemed to put it all together for four rounds in a while now. The Travelers Championship was his first finish inside of the top 30 since the WGC Mexico back in February. Reed has hit over 62% of greens in regulation over his past five events.
Going down the salary scale a bit, we have Joaquin Niemann ($35) and Ryan Moore ($35) sitting there in the midst of all of these 70/1 and higher golfers as they are at 28/1 and 40/1, respectively. Niemann showed that he can string high finishes together last season but he hadn’t shown much upside in 2019. That is until last week’s fifth place finish. He’s made five of his past six cuts and has been trending in the right direction. Moore also had a good effort the last time we saw him. He finished 15th at the Travelers Championship, carding three of four rounds in the 60s.
Price Pivots
Brooks Koepka ($49) is the most expensive golfer on the slate this week. Reed pops up as the highest sim score on the list for Koepka this week. Peter Malnati ($26) is another guy who makes an appearance in the list this week, though. Malnati has averaged nearly 70% of greens in regulation over his past three events. For just under half the price and coming off of a solid performance, he seems like an excellent option this week.
Bryson DeChambeau ($46) is next up on the salary list and has had an up and down season so far. Sungjae Im ($38) represents a slight discount and has strung together three made cuts in a row now. Over his past three events, he’s averaging just a shade under 70% of greens in regulation. Im’s gaining more strokes tee to green than Bryson over that same stretch.
Hideki Matsuyama ($44) should always be in consideration for your DFS lineups. He’s tied for the third highest price on the slate this week. Niemann owns the highest sim score but we want to go a bit cheaper. Cameron Tringale ($20) is still sitting there at min price this week after a top-five finish last week. Granted, he didn’t light the world on fire down the stretch Sunday, but this is some of the best golf we’ve seen from him in years. In fact, the Rocket Mortgage Classic last week was his third best SG: Tee to Green performance of his career.
