DRAFT PGA Best Ball – Strategy and Cheat Sheet

I’ve been participating non-stop in the new best ball format that DRAFT is offering. There are a million different layers to go through and this article will serve as somewhat of a living document from now until the Masters kicks off when the lobby will close. For now, I figured I’d start everyone off with a basic breakdown of the rules and a cheat sheet to see who’s qualified for which majors and how they’ve done in previous majors since 2010.

Format

You’re probably familiar with NFL best ball and PGA is no different. You go through either four- or six-person drafts lasting 10 rounds. Those 10 golfers are who you have on your roster for the entire season. No roster moves, no changes. At the conclusion of each major, your five best eligible golfers from that tournament will be used to calculate your score. Easy as that. The scoring and bonuses aren’t all that dissimilar to DraftKings scoring.

The per-hole scoring is as follows:

Score Points
Double Eagle or Better 15
Eagle 8
Birdie 3
Par 0.5
Bogey -0.5
Double Bogey -1
Worse than Double Bogey -3

Tournament Finish Bonuses are as follows:

Tournament Finish Points
1st 30
2nd 20
3rd 18
4th 16
5th 14
6th 12
7th 10
8th 9
9th 8
10th 7
11th-15th 6
16th-20th 5
21st-25th 4
26th-30th 3
31st-40th 2
41st-50th 1

The following table displays major-qualifying golfers along with their performances in those majors since the start of 2010. I’ll be back soon with some more thoughts on best ball strategy.

The idea of the multiverse is fascinating to me. You change one small thing in one timeline and it breaks off and affects things down the road in profound ways. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that has Earth-shattering, Thanos-snapping implications. In fantasy football, it’s just my fancy way of saying that a range of outcomes exists. My goal for this series is to pick a…...
