Week 2 WR Advanced Stats: Twice the Amount of Data Equals Twice The Amount of Fun Compared to Week 1!

After the completion of Week 2, we have doubled our data set for the 2024 season. What a time to be alive!

Before we get into the latest information available in the Advanced Stats Explorer, just a few quick reminders about the article.

  • Leading up to the season, I looked at the five years of data available in the Advanced Stats Explorer and broke it down into four separate articles: Routes and Targets, Intended Air Yards, Yards After the Catch and Evasion, and Catchable Targets, Drops, First Downs, and Touchdowns.
  • When working through the five-year sample, we found that the 90th percentile and above generally included most of the top-24 wide receivers for each metric in any given season. The 75th percentile and above included the top 55 to 60 WRs in any given metric per season. Given that these two cohorts easily apply to a normal 12-team fantasy league, they will be referenced often throughout the article.

In Week 2, the total number of players who earned at least one target during the 2024 season grew to 142 after our Week 1 sample included 124 players.

Let’s see what all of this new information has to offer!

When it comes to fantasy football, receiving production at running back, wide receiver, and tight end is the backbone of strong roster construction. While counting stats such as yards, receptions, and touchdowns helps to tell the story, delving deeper can help fantasy managers identify breakouts before they occur, rather than reacting to last year’s trends. This Unheralded WR’s Rookie Season Stacks Up With Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey, But Can He Sustain Enough Opportunity to Realize the Upside?

The NFL draft always gives us a few future stars who weren’t household names when they entered the league. If you’ve been playing fantasy long enough, you remember what a force Brandon Marshall was. You might not remember he was only a fourth-round pick, and played sparingly in his rookie year before exploding over the next few seasons. His former teammate Alshon Jeffery was drafted…...
