Shawn Siegele dials up the RotoViz Roster Construction Explorer and looks at a key hack for beating the FFPC Superflex best ball tournament.
Last year was a lot of fun in the Main Event with two teams placing in the money during the race (No. 30 overall with Ben Gretch and No. 125 overall with Colm Kelly). I loved the sweat with Ben as we had a shot at the top spot going into the final day, but I also enjoyed a more obscure battle. On limited entries, Colm and I were able to reach the finals of an FFPC best ball tournament for the third consecutive year. We haven’t reached the highs of the 2021 second-place finish, but back-to-back appearances in the Superflex finals have made it my favorite tournament.
Or I should say, the quality of the tournament makes it my favorite. At the $35 level and with tournament sizes that give you a real chance at victory, the structure is perfect. To qualify for the postseason, you must finish in the top two of your individual league. In Weeks 15 and 16, you must again be in the top two from your 12-team pod. The Week 17 final consists of 78 teams and delivers a grand prize of $100,000 to the winner.
And then there’s the Superflex element. Beyond the fun — and SF is a lot of fun — drafters don’t play the format as efficiently, giving you a big leg up if you’re an RV subscriber with access to the FFPC Roster Construction Explorer and Best Ball Win Rate Explorer.
In today’s exercise, we’ll look at how 2022’s biggest insight led to success again in 2023. And more importantly, with this opportunity still wide open in 2024, we’ll explain how you can use it to challenge for a title in this year’s tournament.
