The 2024 fantasy football season is officially here! With RotoViz TriFlex leagues and the Never-Too-Early Best Ball Tournament in full swing over at the FFPC, along with The Big Board and Little Board tournaments both launching on Underdog this week, it is a great time to be alive.
No matter what type of league we’re competing in, the exercise of researching each NFL team’s salary cap situation, draft capital, and potential needs can help us write a narrative of how we believe the offseason will play out across the league. As a general guideline, early in the offseason it is better to focus on the broad strokes while having the humility to understand that we will be wrong about many of the specifics. The hope is that having done the preparation we can react quicker to breaking news and be a step ahead of our competition when predicting what is coming next.
The 2024 offseason is already promising excitement. We have a deep rookie class headlined by Caleb Williams and Marvin Harrison Jr. coming into the league. An impressive pool of free-agent running backs including Saquon Barkley and Austin Ekeler are looking to take over new backfields. Multiple superstar wide receivers like Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, and Mike Evans are looking for new contracts. We don’t know how it will all shake out, but one thing is certain: there will be no shortage of information for us to digest and react to in the coming months.
We begin our analysis by looking at an NFC team whose players have been high-level fantasy assets over the past few years, but their inability to get over the top in reality football may have the team in a position to begin a rebuild sooner than we think.
