Shawn Siegele examines a Best Ball Banana Stand draft with Peter Overzet and asks whether we can use the pressure from a WR Avalanche draft to help us think about tactics that bridge the 2021 and 2022 seasons in Underdog.
Pete and I draft a team in BBM4 every Wednesday morning, and these drafts tend to be extremely WR heavy. That creates an interesting mix of incentives, given that RB appears to be significantly undervalued even at normal ADPs. The Win the Flex tool helps us visualize this scoring dynamic.
Of course, this isn’t the whole story. Robust RB doesn’t create the same advantage when RB is undervalued in 2-3-1 (RB/WR/Flex) formats as Zero RB does when WR is undervalued. And yet, just because it’s not the same doesn’t mean it couldn’t be tournament winning.
You can follow those links for a deeper exploration of the concepts and tradeoffs, and today I’m going to explore the natural extention: Does 2023 offer an opportunity to create a supercharged blend of the tactics that were dominant in 2021 and those that won in 2022?
