Draft age is one of the most important metrics when evaluating prospects, at all positions. Across the board we see that players who are drafted at a younger age are more successful at nearly every stage of their careers, and are successful for longer than their peers that were drafted at an older age. There are few prospect metrics that have more predictive power than age-based metrics, and certainly none apart from draft slot that are as powerful across all fantasy positions.
The following table lists the birth date and relevant ages for the top 2023 prospects. “Final College Age” is the player’s age on December 31 of his final college season (which is also found in the running back and wide receiver prospect labs). “Draft Age” is a player’s age on draft day (Round 1). And “Rookie Age” represents his age on December 31 of his rookie season (this corresponds to a player’s listed age in the RotoViz Screener). I’ll add a few brief notes on the fantasy implications for some of the most notable names in this database.
