Allen Lazard has agreed to a four-year, $44 million deal with the New York Jets, $22 million of which is guaranteed. What does the move mean for the Jets and their bid to secure the services of Aaron Rodgers. Can Lazard thrive in a new-look Jets offense?
Although the Packers and Jets appear to be engaged in a battle of brinksmanship when it comes to Aaron Rodgers, New York hasn’t paused in their effort to move Green Bay’s mediocre passing attack east. Rodgers, in his dotage, is hellbent on lowering the ceiling for a Jets passing attack that could be elite if he focused on launching Garrett Wilson to stardom and unlocking the rare athletic talents of Elijah Moore.
Alas, many of the Jets’ recent acquisitions (both coaching and player personnel) appear to be pieces of a Packers puzzle that no one who enjoys good football really wants put together. Nevertheless, Lazard has probably been better than you remember, and it’s worth taking a closer look at his recent production with Rodgers.
Lazard had his best season as a pro in 2022, finishing as the WR33. He had only one WR1 week, but was able to put up double-digit PPR points in most outings.
This is more impressive than it sounds when you consider that Aaron Rodgers had his worst season as a pro in 2022. Rodgers was held below 20 points per game for the first time since he became a starter in 2008.
