Get an early start on your preparation for the upcoming week with the RotoViz Monday Review tool. Every week in 1 Big Thing, Blair Andrews uses the tool for a deep dive into an interesting and potentially actionable development from the last week of fantasy football. I skipped last week due to an illness, but this week I’m making up for it, because the one big thing I want to talk about spans the last two weeks.
RB Scoring Leaders
If you look at the top running backs in PPR scoring through six weeks, a few notable things jump out. First, Nick Chubb is the RB3 despite seeing only 11 targets the entire season. For comparison, Austin Ekeler had 16 targets in Week 6 alone. But the even more notable thing is the performance of the rookie RBs. Breece Hall is the RB6. Dameon Pierce is the RB15 despite having a bye in Week 6. Kenneth Walker was the RB8 in Week 6.
Hall trails only Ekeler, Christian McCaffrey, and Leonard Fournette in RB receiving yards. He leads all running backs in air yards. The next closest back (J.D. McKissic) is almost 100 air yards behind him. Hall’s 147 air yards are the most by a running back through the first six weeks since 2019. In fact, only three RBs had more total air yards all of last season (and one of them was Kyle Juszczyk, a fullback).
How Breece Hall Wins
Of course, Hall is doing this despite the fact that Zach Wilson has not been asked to throw the ball often. Wilson attempted only 21 passes in Week 5 and only 18 passes in Week 6. Over Hall’s last two games he has only four total targets. Yet he is also the RB3 over that span, largely due to his efficiency.
Only Rhamondre Stevenson has more rushing yards over the last two weeks than Hall. Only four RBs have more total receiving yards. What seems to have changed in the last two weeks is that Michael Carter’s role has shifted dramatically.
