Looking for extremely inexpensive target volume from established veteran receivers? Shawn Siegele provides two very cheap ways to buy Amari Cooper’s profile.
Amari Cooper and Allen Lazard are the two most obvious volume plays in 2022. Lazard is a far less decorated player, but he’s younger and more athletic. He also gets to catch passes from Aaron Rodgers, a legend who has turned mere mortals into fantasy demigods before.
If Lazard were to break out, it would closely follow the template of fifth-year breakout WRs. With Rodgers appearing to sour on exciting youngsters like Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson before even giving them a chance, Lazard is poised to generate serious target volume and significant red zone opportunity as he competes with veteran options who were washed up years ago.
Cooper, on the other hand, is heading into a season of uncertainty with Jacoby Brissett in line to play the first 11 games. The path to volume is even more theoretically open, but Donovan Peoples-Jones and David Bell each bring a specific skill set that could siphon targets. Moreover, Cooper appears to be on the solid decline for the second time in his career.
In today’s exercise, we’ll use the Range of Outcomes and Stealing Signals tools, the Game Splits app, and the Advanced Stats and NFL Player Stat Explorers to locate the best discount options for Amari Cooper.
Stay tuned for Conor O’Driscoll’s look at the impact of Deshaun Watson’s suspension and his 2022 outlook.
