With bigger best ball tournaments, larger prize pools, and an overall increase in popularity in the format, best ball dominates the fantasy football offseason. With more content and attention to the format, best ball drafters are getting sharper. There are fewer automatic-last-place rosters and more opponents implementing lessons from Shawn Siegele’s Best Ball Workshop. In order to consistently win year-over-year, RotoViz best ball principles primarily focus on macro-concepts and structural advantages, such as roster construction.
Here we will look at roster construction trends through the years and see how the field has adjusted. The roster constructions I chose to examine are those that we already know are successful through the work here at RotoViz as well as other strategies that may be popular amongst the field (as you will see, popularity ≠ success).
