Welcome to Going Deep! This weekly article will use charting data, advanced metrics, and other RotoViz tools to help readers better understand the challenges facing wide receivers and tight ends in the coming week.
This week’s Going Deep Worksheet can be found at the end of the article and includes data from all games played in 2021 with one change this week — average threshold games will be based on the last eight weeks and not the entire season. Wide Receivers With Positive Matchups – Week 15
Darnell Mooney matches up nicely with the Vikings’ hapless secondary. He’ll see coverage from Bashaud Breeland, Mackensie Alexander, and Patrick Peterson. The trio is allowing a combined 26.3 PPG on direct targets, and Minnesota ranks 31st in average threshold games allowed to WRs. This comes as no surprise as the team ranks last in the league in points saved per play. This metric encapsulates the total of a defense’s EPA responsibility while in coverage using Sports Info Solutions’ Total Points system that distributes credit among all players on the field for a given play.
