It is week 5 already and the first 4 weeks have gone just as we all thought, Cordarrelle Patterson is the highest-scoring fantasy option on the Falcons and the RB3 overall. All kidding aside, understanding that this game has so much variance and is so unpredictable week to week and building lineups around when the chalk fails is absolutely paramount when constructing large field tournament teams. I decided late last week in large-field tournaments to stack the Falcons and The Football Team because I did not hear much hype about it as the weekend went on and both defenses are obviously terrible. I only used Calvin Ridley and Kyle Pitts and never considered Patterson. Hindsight is obviously 20-20, but he probably should’ve been considered because it was a very large field contest.
As always in this space I will recommend the stacks I like the best and what constructions of the stacks make the most sense based on the types of contests they are being entered in. I put most of my money each week into very small field tournaments (300 people or less). I prefer these types of contests because I do not feel like it is necessary to get all parts of the lineup right. In these small fields, you may only need to get one or two things right to give yourself a chance to get to the top. For example, last week in my 129-person contest, just having the Mahomes Hill stack and getting one more high-scoring player was enough to vault you to the top of the leaderboard. The reason I bring this up is that if you are newer to DFS or just have a smaller bankroll, these types of contests are a great way to build your bankroll.
