Shawn Siegele continues the Discount Series with a look at Tyler Lockett and four similar wide receivers who can replace his production for less.
Tyler Lockett has always been one of my favorite NFL players. He went to K-State, stayed for four seasons, and set records there. Lockett entered the NFL as an old, undersized WR, but one with 4.4 speed and coming off two straight seasons with a Dominator Rating north of 40%.
Lockett flashed as a rookie, then survived two down seasons to finally emerge in Year 4. He’s scored 220-plus fantasy points in three consecutive years, and now enters his age-29 season as the solid No. 2 behind D.K. Metcalf.
His WR17 ADP doesn’t look that aggressive when you consider his seasonal finishes of WR16, WR13, and WR8. It’s a little trickier when you consider the per-game finishes (WR24, WR23, WR12). The Range of Outcomes tool has him at WR18, again in line with his ADP. But that likely understates the chances that rookie or second-year receivers will slide past him, not to mention the risk from the Seattle passing game going into a shell.
The biggest issue is this: Lockett’s profile is not particularly unique, and you can get exposure to it for less. In a few cases, far less.
