Believe it or not, it’s time to start talking about the 2021 College Football season! Spring practices are already in bloom. Spring games are kicking off here soon. Early enrollees have been on campus for weeks now. Most transfers are finalized. Some impatient devy fantasy football drafts are already in progress. It’s time we talk about the next generation of future NFL stars set to dominate College Football this fall!
Whether you’re into devy fantasy football (highly recommended if you haven’t tried it) where you can roster players before they’re in the NFL, or you just want to get a few steps ahead of your league mates on some future NFL Draft classes, this list of the RotoViz top-15 devy players is the perfect place to start.
1. D.J. Uiagalelei, QB Clemson (2023 Eligible)
We got a sneak peek of D.J. Uiagalelei this past season when he opened up with nearly 800 passing yards in his first two starts against Boston College and Notre Dame. He posted an 82nd-percentile mark for Adjusted Yard Per Pass Attempt over expectation, given Clemson’s play-action percentage, far exceeding NFL-ready thresholds already in a small sample.
Uiagalelei was a five-star recruit coming out of high school. He averaged nearly 13 yards per attempt and won the High School Football National Championship in his final season. At 6 feet 4 inches and 250 pounds, Uiagalelei has the size, strength, and speed to be the next Cam Newton, but with better accuracy. Expect him to be the first quarterback off the board in 2023 with perhaps the highest expected ceiling of all current college passers.
2. Breece Hall, RB Iowa State (2022)
In a year in which Iowa State was replacing nearly their entire offensive line fighting through a pandemic, Breece Hall somehow managed to actually improve his efficiency and dominate all of college football. Hall finished second in yards from scrimmage and total touchdowns behind only Najee Harris in 2020. Expect a similar workload this year and an easy glide into first-round draft capital from Hall. And even without a final season just yet, if we give his production profile some draft capital around the first and second round turn, we get these fun comps:
Hall is clearly and easily in the top overall returning player conversation.
