Hunter Henry Is Now a Patriot, but Has New England’s Spending Spree Actually Crushed His Fantasy Value?

After a wild day of spending on the first day of free agency, the New England Patriots were at it again on Tuesday. This time, they inked Hunter Henry, formerly of the Los Angeles Chargers, to a three-year, $37.5 million contract. But while the 2020 Patriots offense lacked weapons, does the crowded nature of the 2021 team make it hard to trust Henry in fantasy this season?

What’s better than landing one big-ticket free-agent tight end? Why, landing two, of course! That is exactly what the Patriots have done this week. After landing Jonnu Smith on Monday, the Patriots doubled up at the TE spot by adding Henry.

The Patriots badly needed more from their TEs in 2021 than they got last season. Even when compared against the worst of the worst, their TE numbers are shocking.

The Patriots passing game as a whole was pretty wretched last season. In addition to Smith, they also made moves to bring in Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne at wide receiver. So with all this competition, can Henry make enough noise to be a key fantasy contributor?
