Ryan Fitzpatrick
Veteran journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Miami Dolphins got another chance in Week 12 and made the most of it. After starting the season as the starter and presumed placeholder until rookie Tua Tagovailoa was ready to take the resigns, Fitzpatrick had taken a backseat over the last month. Unfortunately, Tua injured his thumb and could not play this past weekend, and Fitzpatrick guided the Dolphins to a divisional win over the New York Jets.
As you can see, when Fitzpatrick is at the helm, the offense looks and operates much differently than when Tua is under center. To his credit, Tua played interception-free football and only lost one fumble in his four appearances. He only topped 170 passing yards once, but the Dolphins have gone 3-1 over the last month. Up next is a home tilt with the Cincinnati Bengals. The Dolphins may sit Tua for another week in what should be a winnable game as the Bengals are without their rookie quarterback (Joe Burrow) for the remainder of the season. If Fitzpatrick gets another chance to start, he’s worth a play if you need a big week to secure a playoff berth in Week 13.

Mike Gesicki
Staying in Miami, tight end Mike Gesicki bounced back in Week 12 with a solid outing that included a trip to the end zone. Now in his third season, there’s a case to be made that Gesicki has disappointed relative to the expectations generated by the fantasy community. His athletic measurables are off the charts, and he’s versatile enough to play as a slot wide receiver. Still, a backend TE1 finish last season was only possible because of a late-season surge in production. This season, it just hasn’t quite happened for him yet.
Gesicki has performed well with Tua in small sample size, although the overall passing volume was down once the rookie took over. With Fitzpatrick back under center, the passing volume should be back up, which naturally provides more opportunity for Gesicki. In his career, the athletic tight end has played well with Fitzpatrick.
Looking ahead, Gesicki has a string of favorable matchups on the horizon. If you have been streaming the tight position all year or are forced to adjust late in the season, there are worse options than Gesicki out there. His upcoming matchup with the Bengals could provide fantasy managers with just enough production to get them through Week 13 and into the fantasy playoffs.

Austin Hooper
Wrapping up with another tight end, Austin Hooper of the Cleveland Browns is an intriguing play moving forward. The loss of Odell Beckham Jr. has undoubtedly created an opportunity for someone else to step up in the passing game. However, the game plan of riding both Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt has proved to be the winning formula this season. There have been 17 instances this season (out of a possible 22) where both Chubb and Hunt reached double-digit carries.
