As a rule, I try to vary my process a bit each week. That’s probably not something that you hear about in most of what you read. People love their process, their routines, their superstitions. Whether I have a winning week or a losing week, I like to change things up after I review my lineups. One element that I always include in my process, though, is the RotoViz Pace App — specifically, the Upcoming Matchup Analysis tab.
This tab calculates the seconds/play and plays per 60 minutes for all teams on the slate that week – in both neutral script and across all game situations. That information is important because pace alone won’t always tell you the full story. There are outliers that sometimes open up leverage opportunities. This week, the Colts-Ravens game is an example of that. It looks like the second-slowest paced game in terms of seconds/play but it’s in the top half of that slate in terms of plays/60 minutes. Leveraging those details, when ownership lags behind what we can see with the numbers, is one way to put yourself in a position to climb leaderboards.
