Despite playing in the most competitive division in football, the Arizona Cardinals have been one of the more exciting teams to watch this season. Obviously, it starts with quarterback Kyler Murray who has quickly become the 2020 version of 2019 Lamar Jackson. The offseason addition of DeAndre Hopkins coupled with the second season under head coach Kliff Kingsbury all pointed to substantial success this season.
One player I was high on this offseason has been on quite the streak over his last several games. Wide receiver Christian Kirk continued his strong run of success in Week 9.
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Christian Kirk led the team’s passing attack in Week 9 against the Miami Dolphins. Kirk caught five of his eight targets for a team-high 123 yards and a touchdown. It was his first 100-yard game of the season. No other Cardinal earned over five targets in the game. Star receiver DeAndre Hopkins was held to just three catches for 30 yards. Kirk now has five touchdowns over his past three games and has become a must-start in all formats going forward. He’ll look to stay hot in Week 10 against the Buffalo Bills.
Third-Year Breakout?
Kirk took a big step forward as a sophomore in 2019. Despite only appearing in 13 games, he was on the field for 94% of offensive snaps and saw over eight targets/game. Those are solid numbers that tend to lend themselves to fantasy-relevant production.
Despite topping 100 targets last season, he barely topped 700 receiving yards and only scored three touchdowns. At a glance, his ranks relative to his fellow wide receivers across the league last season are not all that impressive. He was a backend WR2 in terms of targets and receptions and notably struggled in the touchdown and efficiency areas. Looking ahead to his third season, he was someone I tabbed as having a potential breakout season.
