In this edition of Win the Waiver Wire, Curtis Patrick shares his top waiver targets for Week 5 in seasonal fantasy football leagues.
Whether by injury, snap count, or role, every fantasy owner can look at their squad and identify a player who disappointed relative to expectations in Week 4. We’ve also entered bye-week season, which means waiver activity will carry greater importance for most fantasy players moving forward.
Bye weeks to cover: Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers
*For the purposes of this week’s article, I’ll be using ESPN “percentage rostered” data. Players are listed in the order of priority, by position. To make the most of my time and yours, I only provide analysis for players who are available in around 50% of leagues.
Quarterback
Streamer of the Week – Ryan Tannehill (available in 55.9% of leagues)
FAAB: 2%
The Titans face the Bills coming off a pseudo-bye week. No team has played more snaps while leading in games than Buffalo, which has led to pedestrian RB production for the opposition. Meanwhile, the Bills defense has allowed three consecutive 300-yard passing games with multiple TD passes to a lackluster collection of talent: Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jared Goff, and Derek Carr.
Tannehill averages 9.66 more fantasy points per game at home than on the road since joining the Titans; he plays host to the Bills this week.
Bonus value in this claim: you can get a pair of games from Tannehill before moving on to another streamer because he gets a very beatable Texans squad in Week 6.
