QB rankings and streaming advice for Week 5 of the 2020 fantasy football season.
Editor’s note: As of Wednesday morning, as this was getting published, word broke that more Patriots and Titans have tested positive, leading to uncertainty on how the NFL will move forward.
The theme for Week 4 was an all too familiar, inevitable consequence of pretending this season is like seasons past. COVID-19 vs. NFL was the matchup of Week 4. With a full-blown outbreak continuing to plague the Tennessee Titans (10 players, 10 personnel), on Saturday morning Cam Newton became the first starting quarterback to test positive for COVID-19 during the NFL regular season, sending the league into a tailspin. With Newton likely out this week at a minimum, the show went on between the Patriots and the Chiefs after a postponement to Monday night.
The next man up in New England was Brian Hoyer, until it became Jarrett Stidham after Hoyer was unable to get anywhere against the Chiefs. It is still undetermined who is under center this week.
More notable performances:
- Tom Brady (at 43 years old) unseated Warren Moon (40) as the oldest player in NFL history with at least five passing touchdowns in a game.
- It may have taken Joe Burrow four weeks to get his first NFL win, but he has thrown for over 300 yards in each of the last three games, including a total of six passing touchdowns.
- Dak Prescott became the first player in NFL history with 450-plus passing yards in three consecutive games, currently on pace for 6,760 total passing yards
- Josh Allen has led the Bills to 4-0 for the first time since 2008, with over 1,300 passing yards, 12 passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns and a solo interception through four weeks
My picks didn’t break any records but did see modest production. Ryan Fitzpatrick didn’t come through for the Dolphins but managed a QB10 fantasy performance, Jared Goff passed for 200 yards and a touchdown, and Baker Mayfield managed to capitalize on the Cowboys abysmal secondary leading the Browns to 28 points in the first half, the first time the franchise has done so since 1991.

Week 5 brings our first “real” bye weeks for the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers in addition to question marks surrounding whether Jimmy Garoppolo, Sam Darnold, and any viable quarterback on the Denver Broncos will start this week. Additionally, Kyle Allen was announced Wednesday as the Week 5 starter for the Washington Football Team.
