QB rankings and streaming advice for Week 2 of the 2020 fantasy football season.
For the most part, Week 1 went as planned. All players tested negative, and the NFL season kicked off without a hitch. Of course, the product on the field wasn’t nearly as predictable. There were more than a few milestones broken by quarterbacks to open the season.
- Josh Allen had his first-ever 300-yard passing game.
- Gardner Minshew became the first quarterback in NFL history to complete 95% of his passes and throw three touchdowns in a single game.
- Tom Brady became the oldest player in NFL history to score a touchdown at 43 years young.
- Joe Burrow began his NFL career as the first rookie quarterback with a rushing touchdown of over 20 yards in his team’s season opener since 2008.
And in less surprising news, Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes proved they do not understand the laws of regression, each throwing for over 200 passing yards and three touchdowns in their season debuts.
As for my Week 1 picks, I am pleased to report that I wasn’t as rusty as Tom Brady. Cam Newton, Teddy Bridgewater, and Ben Roethlisberger all exceeded their ESPN and GLSP projections. Newton introduced the Patriots’ new-look run-first offense and reminded fans why he was once drafted with the first pick overall, notching his 59th career rushing touchdown on Sunday (the most in NFL history by a quarterback) and 75 total rushing yards on the day (the most by any Patriots quarterback in a single game in franchise history). Meanwhile, after several long roads to recovery, Bridgewater threw for 270 yards and a touchdown and Roethlisberger was nearly flawless with 229 yards and three scores on the day.
