With the season almost upon us, I’ll look at the various backfields across the NFL. Let’s look at the NFC North and South. Welcome home, football!
NFC North
Green Bay Packers
Aaron Jones
He finally got his chance. In 2019, Aaron Jones received over 300 opportunities (carries and targets) and finished as the RB2 overall. Scoring 19 total touchdowns along the way, he was a bit boom/bust. Jones scored at least 25 points in six games and had another six with 10 points or fewer.
He figures to remain the new-look Packers offense’s focal point as head coach Matt LaFleur begins his second season. Ultimately, the lack of new additions to the wide receiver room could mean more work in the passing game for Jones. He hauled in 49 receptions last season.
AJ Dillon
The Packers’ second-round selection in this most recent NFL Draft, AJ Dillon, has already garnered comparisons with Derrick Henry. It’s not too difficult to see why. He erupted at the combine, and both his athleticism and collegiate production show eerie similarities to Henry.
