Shawn Siegele provides the key advanced stats from a crazy Week 2 of fantasy football, redrafts the 2020 rookie draft, provides television recommendations, and more.
In a week where the NFL lost Saquon Barkley for the season and Christian McCaffrey for a good chunk of time, it’s important to remember all of the great storylines from Sunday as well.
Every week in this space I also recommend a sleeper television show and book to help get through the pandemic. If you just lost your fantasy core to injuries, it may also help you get through the fantasy season.
The Bills Want to Know If Josh Allen Can Help Forge a Dynasty
Buffalo spent much of the offseason sending Josh Allen messages. They weren’t subtle. The Bills aren’t running a fantasy team, and they want to know if his arm can carry them to the promised land.
Jack Miller had a great look at the Seahawks opening up the offense for Russell Wilson in the debut of Strength in Numbers. In Week 2, the Seahawks weren’t able to pass with as much volume, but their efficiency was stunning.
In a surprising turn, the Bills may be doing even more to place the game on the shoulders of their quarterback.
Allen’s passing attempts have jumped from 28.8 per game to over 40. He’s generated a hefty 22.3 Expected Points (EP) as a passer, but he’s outperformed that by 8.0 (FPOE). These numbers get more impressive when you consider that the Bills have spent relatively little time trailing.
Buffalo has already executed 108 plays while leading, second-most in the NFL. Their run/pass split in such contexts is astonishingly pass heavy.
It’s hard to believe the Bills would keep up this type of playcalling throughout the year, but the early results have been impressive. Allen sits near the top of all passing categories.
With two of the NFL’s best deep threats in Stefon Diggs and John Brown at his disposal, Allen also ranks near the top in downfield passing.
Allen has completed 13 of 16 passes that have traveled 15 or more yards in the air and ranks second in completed air yards as a result.
