For years, fantasy owners have been chasing the WR2 position for the Green Bay Packers. The allure of Aaron Rodgers and the history of some great seasons from players like Jordy Nelson and Greg Jennings have pushed owners to scramble for the next great secondary option. Even with the coaching change and shift in offensive philosophy, a recent headline is gaining momentum.
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard took a significant step forward in 2019, putting him on many owners’ radars ahead of drafts this year. Despite having been an undrafted free agent that saw just one target in ’18, Lazard is now arguably the Packers No. 2 receiver and is being rostered in just 16% of leagues. He would see his fantasy prospects rise significantly should Davante Adams miss time in a fashion similar to last year, as the Green Bay pecking order is held together in his mold. But Lazard’s claim to ownership is that he’ll have Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball. At 6 feet 5 with a 67.3% catch rate last year, Lazard figures to stand out as a red-zone threat, which gives him added appeal for those owners willing to consider him with their last selection.
Lazard’s History
Last season, it took a bit for Lazard to get his chance. An undrafted free agent, his collegiate market share numbers were impressive despite playing at Iowa State, and his Freak Score put him in excellent company.
Three straight seasons of a Dominator Rating over 30% is no small feat. For the sake of discussion, if I were to give Lazard draft capital near the end of the second round, his comps from the RotoViz Prospect Box Score Scout are incredible. Sometimes it’s fun to play around with “mock” draft capital and see how prospects compare with one another.
