As startups explode in the aftermath of the NFL Draft, this is the perfect time to develop your dynasty strategy for 2020. Beyond the Dynasty Command Center Rookie Guide and our deep research on the best players and tactics in rookie drafts, we’ve also been focusing on how to build your overall roster.
Curtis Patrick’s Dynasty Startup Cheat Sheet helps you build the perfect core by selecting those players with the best age/ranking profile relative to ADP.
In today’s exercise, we’ll use the RotoViz tools to find the most extreme startup values.
Our partners at the FFPC host an excellent dynasty format, and we pull their leagues into our Dynasty ADP. Mike Beers has built a flexible tool that allows you to track ADP, plot the ADP moves of multiple players, locate risers/fallers, and more. One of my favorite elements is the ability to view FFPC ADP as a draft grid.
As I was drafting in Curtis’ current startup, the Black Crown Dynasty, I used this board as a reference throughout.
In order to understand dynasty ADP, it’s important to make sure you’re comparing the starting requirements in FFPC to those in your league. A league with a 2-RB/2-WR/2-Flex lineup will be different from a 2-3-1, or, as is increasingly common in startups, leagues with three to five flexes.
However, even in FFPC leagues, we have the option of starting twice as many WRs as RBs, and we know that WRs hold their trade value much longer. Perhaps when we contrast ADP with our staff rankings, we’ll discover that WRs look undervalued. But we can also double check our recommendations by making sure that our key targets are undervalued not just across positions but within their position.
In order to find the most undervalued players in dynasty, I looked for them to hit multiple ranking/ADP criteria:
- Undervalued by at least 25 slots according to our composite ranks.
- Undervalued by at least 20 slots in my personal ranks.
- Undervalued by at least 5 slots within their position.
- Undervalued according to every individual ranker.
- Exit the 2020 season at 26 years or younger.
The following 10 players were the most exciting of those that met the criteria and look like crazy values heading into 2020.
