The New York Jets entered the 2017 season expected to challenge the Cleveland Browns for the worst team in the NFL. They finished with a record of 5-11 which was enough of a positive that general manager Mike Maccagnan was retained and head coach Todd Bowles’ contract was extended. The team did surprisingly relieve offensive coordinator John Morton of his duties, despite getting a strong season out of Josh McCown. They replaced him with in-house candidate Jeremy Bates.
