At this point many fantasy players are familiar with Zero RB, but avoiding those early round land mines is meaningless without a method for otherwise filling the position. In last April’s Zero RB, Breakout Stars, and Having More Fun Drafting, I explained how to use an evidence-based approach to consistently land late round starters at the running back position. A few of the key components:
- Target rookies.
- Target players with an excellent RB Prospect Lab projection but poor film-based narrative.
- Target Profile 2 stars.
- Target “high vol” players.
Having a strong methodology for selecting players doesn’t mean all of your targets will hit.[1]I had a wide variety of Zero RB candidates on my 2014 board. Many of them busted, but the presence of Lamar Miller, Ahmad Bradshaw, and Justin Forsett often led to the dreaded RB-in-the-Flex decision. It’s also important to simply be familiar with all of the candidates and be prepared to take a brute force approach. With that general template in mind, let’s start our look at the top 15 candidates for 2015. We’ll begin with the five cheapest players from the group and eventually finish with the most expensive runners.
