First of all, a big thank you to subscribers for making our first year here at RotoViz a screaming success. We really appreciate your support and hopefully we can all squeeze some league titles out of the content coming out of the site.
I wanted to give a few updates so you know what to expect going forward. Hopefully you’re already taking advantage of the GLSP apps (available in the nav bar) to set your lineups and answer start/sit type questions. In order to get the most out of the apps you’ll want to tweak the player’s game log so that their averages represent the amount of usage you think is realistic for that player and then the app will give you an idea as to what to expect out of the matchup. To clarify, you’re not trying to tweak the game log so that the average represents the number of carries (or targets) the player will see in that game. You’re just coming up with an estimate as to what kind of usage the player would see in most games. For scheduling purposes related to the app I should note that I get my data on Monday night so on Tuesday night the GLSP apps should be updated. – Note that if you see a 504 error on the page it’s likely due to some caching that we utilize on the site and you can try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache.
Hopefully you’ve also taken advantage of the daily games apps covering Fanduel, DraftStreet and DraftDay. These apps are based on GLSP projections that have been slightly tweaked (only player usage has been tweaked in the projections) and should give you an optimal lineup based on our projections and subject to some constraints. The best way to use the apps is in combination with your own knowledge about what’s likely to happen over the weekend (and also in conjunction with the lineup columns that James Goldstein puts out). I usually go in and experiment with various lineup combinations by blacklisting certain guys and preselecting others. Once I’ve played around with the lineups a good amount I usually have a sense as to how I want to play that weekend’s games. The daily game apps should be updated by about Wed. at noon each week. They take some customization and that’s the reason for the time delay. Note that if you see a 504 error on the page it’s likely due to some caching that we utilize on the site and you can try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache.
Lastly, I know some of you are excited for the trade apps that we have planned. We’re excited too. But buying low/selling high is done best when you know something about the upcoming schedule that your trade partner doesn’t know. For that reason we really need to get more strength of schedule information into the database so that the app can identify good trade targets. I’m planning on having an initial trade app up next week and then we’ll have an improved app up after week 4. Also you really shouldn’t be making that many trades early in the season unless you have a screaming buy low opportunity. Remember that teams have had a full offseason to decide on which players will start and play a lot for them. Don’t let one or two weeks dissuade you from the thesis you developed all off-season.
That’s all for now. Thanks again for subscribing and good luck out there.
