Last summer, I did a series on game theory considerations for PGA DFS. I view these decisions in the same light that I view structural drafting in best ball. There’s no one magic bullet to solve all of your issues and win every league you join. If you understand the way the game is played, though, you can set yourself up to capture tiny edges
We’re presented with a unique challenge this week. It’s rare that we get a new course and a no-cut event, but here we are. The lack of historical course-level stats means we have to trust our evaluation of talent[1]PRK Score and the field consisting of 72 golfers that will all play four rounds means we’ll need to play the game-theory angle. This week’s article will
We’re back at yet another memorable course in the Riviera Country Club. It’s a par 71 that plays just a touch over 7,320 yards. The greens are poa and the rough/fairways are Kikuyu.[1]It’s fun to say … try it. The Genesis Open features a much stronger field than we had last week which means that ownership should spread out at the top of the salary
Football season has officially wrapped up and we can set every ounce of our attention on the Tour now. With a relatively weak field, my first thought is that ownership will concentrate pretty heavily near the top of the board. When that happens, we’re usually looking at one or two mid-range leverage plays that make the difference in lineups. Checking The Chalk The two most
The Tour is heading out to TPC Scottsdale for this year’s version of the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Unfortunately, given the COVID protocols, it won’t be quite as raucous of a crowd as usual. For those that are unfamiliar, the 16th hole is set up like a stadium and is one of the few events where the PGA pros welcome noise. It’s a completely different
The PGA Tour is back again this week with the Farmers Insurance Open. We’re looking at another two-track rotation this weekend with Torrey Pines North and South being featured. Neither of these courses put much of an emphasis on driving accuracy and definitely lean towards rewarding distance off the tee. That information should serve as more of a tie-breaker than a hard and fast rule,
After a couple of events in Hawaii, the Tour is coming back for the Cali swing. The first stop in California is The American Express. This is a rare type of event in that there are multiple courses on the agenda. This year, The American Express will feature the PGA West TPC Stadium Course and the Nicklaus Tournament Course. The Stadium course is a fair
After an exciting kick-off to the season in Kapalua, the Tour turns its attention to Waialae Country Club for the Sony Open. It was a nice appetizer to kick off the season, but we’re ready for a full-field main course now. The course itself is a familiar one. It plays as a par 70 and is just over 7,000 yards. With just two par 5s
We’re back! After a bit of a break for the NFL season, PGA content is live once again. It’s a bit of a “soft opening” for the season with the Tournament of Champions. This year, the field is set with just over 40 golfers and it’s a no-cut event. Typically, in small-field events, I dial back my volume for DFS and betting purposes. These types
A tradition unlike any other returns. The date might be different but the excitement for this week is business as usual. The Masters is by far my favorite week of the year. There are a lot of unknowns in regards to how the course will play. From a weather perspective, though, the historical November temperature is pretty close to in-line with April. It appears there…...
There’s no rest for the weary as the tour heads down to the Dominican Republic for this week’s event. The course is Corales Puntacana Resort and Golf Club, which is a par 72 that plays just over 7,660 yards. This is one of the weaker fields of the year, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t specific ways to attack the slate. What Kind of Week…...
The second major of the calendar year brings us to Mamaroneck, NY, to the famous[1]or infamous Winged Foot Golf Club. It is a long par 70 course. It clocks in this year at just under 7,480 yards. There are 70 bunkers that the field will have to deal with and water will come to play on two holes (15 and 16). Our new optimizer/simulator combo…...
I hope each and every one of you reading this enjoyed the offseason . . . but golf is back! That’s right. The season “ended” on Sunday but[1]best read in Bill Belichick voice we’re onto the Safeway. The tour is heading back to Silverado Resort and Spa North Course in beautiful Napa, California. It’s a par 72 that plays just under 7,200 yards. No offense…...
After an odd year, we’re heading into the finale of the regular season. The Tour Championship, as always, is being held at East Lake Golf Club. The course is a long par 70, playing just over 7,300 yards. The field of 30 will be forced to deal with 74 bunkers and a half-dozen water hazards. For those that don’t know, this week features a “head…...
As the PGA Tour Playoffs come to a close, we’re getting smaller and smaller fields. This week we’re down to 69 golfers in the field.[1]Webb Simpson just withdrew The BMW Championship is also the first round of the playoffs that doesn’t feature a cut so we’re all guaranteed 6/6 from our lineups. That means we should be chasing a bit more upside and we need…...
After an abbreviated season, the Tour heads into TPC Boston for the first event of the FedEx Cup [*Jim Mora Voice*] Playoffs. TPC Boston is a par-71 course that plays nearly 7,300 yards. If you’re looking for general course fit angles, distance has a slight bump in importance here relative to an average tour stop, but it’s not a total bomber’s paradise. The leaderboard will…...
After an exciting week out in San Francisco for the PGA Championship, the tour heads cross-country for the final event of the regular season. Sedgefield Country Club has played host to this event every year since 2008.[1]It was also held here from 1938-1976. The track for the Wyndham Championship is a par 70 course that plays right around 7,130 yards. Buy or Sell It was…...
