When The Devy Breaks: Can D.K. Metcalf Stem The Tide?

When the Devy Breaks travels the college football landscape, keeping you up-to-date on last week’s results, previewing the big upcoming tilts, and providing updated devy rankings.

Heading into last Saturday, I wouldn’t have faulted you for thinking the college football slate looked a bit sparse. And for the second weekend in a row we saw a bunch of top-ranked teams beating up on over-matched opponents with Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State as prime examples. It took a wild finish for Clemson to narrowly escape an upset bid from Texas A&M, 28-26, as the Tigers continued to rotate between quarterbacks Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence. Arizona State upset Michigan State in Tempe in triple-digit evening temperatures aided by numerous mistakes from the Spartans. And the Kentucky Wildcats, led by Benny Snell Jr., broke a streak of 31 consecutive losses against the Florida Gators, leaving questions for new head coach Dan Mullen. As we look ahead to Week 3, we have a few marquee matchups highlighted by LSU/Auburn and Ohio State/TCU. We’ll also see USC look to bounce back after their loss to Stanford as they travel to Texas to face a seemingly rudderless Longhorns’ program. Boise State heading to Oklahoma State also looks like a sneaky good offering.
